Haskell’s Wines of Far Niente

The top end wines were the winners tonight. My friend Tom and I enjoyed this amazing value at $30 and included meat and cheeses. Haskell’s is really delivering right now. No other shop is even close right now. Here are the notes.

• 2023 Far Niente Chardonnay Post & Beam – USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
  Not a fan of this one but loved the 23 Far Niente Chardonnay. Just a light wine with oak, spice, Carmel and light fruits. Just not enough fruit showing to excite me. (80 pts.)
• 2023 Far Niente Chardonnay – USA, California, Napa Valley
  Rich wine with oak, Carmel, spice, sour apple, pear and floral notes. Medium finish. (92 pts.)

• 2023 EnRoute Pinot Noir Les Pommiers – USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
  Good thing I took a photo of all the wines. This was terrible. Alcohol, dirt, easter egg dye, lacks fruit and spice. They should not be in the Pinot Noir business. People on my left and right hated this at this industry event. (71 pts.)

• 2022 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon Post & Beam – USA, California, Napa Valley
  Honestly this Post and Beam stuff get rid of it. Your top end stuff is stellar and this is not good. Smoke, spice, cherry, wood and a thin finish. Short finish and not interesting at all. (82 pts.)

• 2022 Bella Union Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, California, Napa Valley
  Really solid and much better than the Post and Beam program. Dark chocolate, cherry, spice, wood, minerals, plum and floral notes. Very good value at $50ish. Would buy again. (92 pts.)

• 2022 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon DeCarle Vineyard – USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
  Ok this is awesome even young and should get better over time. 100% Cabernet. Cherry, plum, spice, blueberries, rose petals, minerals, and earth. Complex and long finish. Bought a few bottles tonight. (94 pts.)

• 2022 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger Vineyard – USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
  Excellent with dark fruit, spice, dark chocolate, floral, cherry, charcoal and wood. Complex and will benefit with age. (93 pts.)

• 2022 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley – USA, California, Napa Valley
  Ok wine of the night at this great event. A few of the cheaper offerings not a fan but these top end wines stellar. Bordeaux like with cigar, earth, blueberries, coffee beans and balance overall. Medium plus finish. Mostly Cabernet in this blend. Loved it. (95 pts.)
