Friends Jamie and Melissa were in town for 3 weeks and their last night in town was perfect for one last wine dinner. Jason’s birthday also happened to be on this day and he is amazing and brought 3 bangers. Maybe the most impressive 2 day transformation happened today as the 11 Dominus improved greatly. Never give up on a wine. Here are the notes.

CellarTracker! AGELVIS last Night in Twin Cities
- 2011 Dominus Estate – USA, California, Napa Valley
Day 1: Glasvin Kane. Natural cork. 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Disappointed with this one and sample throughout the night. Got worse and easy pass. Thankfully only paid $150. Lighter vintage with cigar, menthol, cherry, floral, dust and minerals. Short finish. Pass people. 91 points
Day 2: Well from an off vintage you would not expect day 2 improvement but this wine is far superior on day 2. People never give up on a wine. Cigar, plum, dark cherry, perfume, menthol, spices, wood, bitter chocolate, dust and minerals. I am amazed at this transformation and a ringer for a left bank Bordeaux. 94 points (94 pts.)

- 2018 Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon Abercrombie – Australia, Western Australia
Eucalyptus, spices, raspberries, menthol, bell pepper, minerals and baking spices. Very serviceable Aussie Cabernet. Medium finish. (91 pts.)

- 2020 Two Hands Shiraz ‘Yacca Block’ Mengler’s Hill – Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
Glasvin Kane. Diam 30. Blackberries, plum, spices, floral, dust, black pepper and minerals. Full concentration without the heat you get with some Aussie wines. Outstanding stuff. Cheers Two Hands. (93 pts.)

- 1994 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve – USA, California, Napa Valley
Glasvin Kane. Natural cork. 13.5%. Roasted chestnuts, spices, black cherry, blueberries, earth, funk, cedar, menthol, anise and dried flowers. Medium plus finish. 95 plus
Holding up beautifully. Thanks Jason for bringing this treat. (95 pts.)

- 2011 Sine Qua Non Syrah Dark Blossom – USA, California, Central Coast
Spices, raspberries, dark cherry, pepper, floral, iodine, earth and dust. Rich and robust and flavorful. Excellent. (95 pts.)

- 2009 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut – France, Champagne
Wow what a treat provided by MN Wine Junkie on his birthday. Drank also with AGELVIS/and his wife. What a great way to celebrate a birthday and the server got a taste as well. She picked a good table tonight. Golden delicious apples, brioche, lemon, mild spice, honeydew, floral, minerals and mild chalk. Super long finish and balanced effort. Loved it! After all these wine dinners the past 3 weeks got a bike and started riding again to lose 20 pounds. (96 pts.)

Sounds like a wonderful night.
