Stereograph Napa Valley

Sally Johnson Blum & Max Blum started Stereograph Winery and I have the pleasure of reviewing 5 of their wines. I always love seeing wines improve over 3 days as those are long term agers. Here are my reviews on their wines:

  • 2024 Stereograph Chenin Blanc Henry Ranch – USA, California, Napa Valley, Pope Valley (4/3/2026)
Day 1: Glasvin Universal. Natural cork. Would like to see these whites under screw cap. Burnt toast, lemon, white flowers and spice. A bit harsh. 87 points
Day 2: Normal like my whites a little warmer than normal but this is better at around 55 degrees. The burnt toast has faded on day 2 as well. Floral, lemon, dust, mild chalk and spices. Orange peel on the medium finish and nice acidity. Another day 2 improvement. 91 points
Day 3: Holding form. Nice acidity and featuring flint, spice, lemon, dust, orange peel and mild chalk. Medium finish. 91 points
Recommendation: Well solid wine and retail is $60.00 a bottle. (91 points)
  • 2024 Stereograph Sémillon – USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros (4/3/2026)
Day 1: Glasvin universal. Natural cork. Way better than the Chenin on day 1 but that changed over 3 days on that opinion. Honey, spices, white flowers, minerals, honey dew melon and spice. Medium finish and nice acidity. 91 points
Day 2: Very good and half of the tasting group liked this better and the other half liked the Chenin Blanc. This is better around 60 degrees. White flowers, honey dew melon, lemon, lime, white flowers and a touch of honey. Medium finish. 91 points
Day 3: Not as good so recommend this over 2 days.
Recommendation: A good white wine and you don’t see much Semillon out of Napa/Sonoma. Good quality overall. (91 points)
  • 2023 Stereograph Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville – USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (4/2/2026)
Day 1: Glasvin Universal. Durand opener. Natural cork. Quite lovely on the pop and pour if maybe a little heat but that will tone down over 3 days. Cherry, wood, spices, dust, graphite, violets and dark chocolate. Well made effort and balanced wine. I like it. 92
Day 2: Well made wine and intense with oak, cherry, spices, dark chocolate, earth, violets, dust and minerals. This is a long term ager for sure. 93+
Day 3: Still a big style wine on day 3 but has everything you need for a 20 year wine. Violets, pencil lead, graphite, dark chocolate, dust, wood, spices, cherry, plum and earth. Concentrated wine and many would be selling this at $200 plus. Similar in my opinion to Bevan Cellars. 94 points
Recommendation: 100% Cabernet. This will for sure benefit with some cellaring. (94 points)
  • 2023 Stereograph Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, California, Napa Valley (4/2/2026)
Day 1: Glasvin Universal. Durand Opener. Natural cork. Much better after some air with pepper, wood, mint, spices, floral, cherry, plum and charcoal. This will benefit with 3 days of reviewing for sure. 90 points
Day 2: Not surprised a young Napa improves on day 2. Blueberries, pepper, spices, charcoal, wood, dried herbs, sour cherry and menthol. More concentrated on day 2 and medium plus finish. Liking this and look forward to day 3. 92 points
Day 3: Again I sound like a broken record but young wines were never meant to drink now (high quality one’s of course) and this is no exception. For $80.00 on day 1 would have said not recommended but day 3 this is rocking and rivals any Napa wine under $100. Menthol, blueberries, spices, dark cherry, wood, dark chocolate, spices, minerals and rose petals. Super complex offering and long finish. Rivals any Washington State Cab I had over 5 days at Taste Washington. 93 points
Recommendation: I see this improving over 5 to 8 years so try one over 3 days and hold the other 5.
88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc (93 points)
  • 2023 Stereograph X2 – USA, California, Napa Valley (3/13/2026)
Day 1: Glasvin Universal. 14.5%. Fruit is the star of the show here. Plum, Bing cherries and cassis. Iodine, rose petals, dust and wood. Nice balance on this wine and medium plus finish. This will evolve in my opinion over 3 days. 92+
Day 2: Fruit still the star but picks up some nice tobacco leaves, spices, iodine, wood, minerals and leather. This is a fruit forward style in its youth but expect this to evolve into more a Bordeaux like wine. 93 points
Day 3: The Cab Franc floral notes are shinning on day 3. Tobacco, plum, cassis, cherry, spices, wood, dark chocolate, wood and dust. Concentrated wine and really showing how this will age long term. Very Impressive wine! 93.5 points
Day 4: Very Bordeaux like on day 4. The fruit is not as intense and getting more wood, tobacco, leather, spices and minerals. While their is still some nice fruit featuring plum and cherry and like this version better on this wine. 94 points
Recommendation: Highly recommended and good value at $80.00 retail. These will cellar nicely over 15 plus years.

    Blend:
60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc (94 points)
