2025 Winery of the Year!

Well I am torn on Abbott Claim and Morgen Long but going with Morgen Long this year. Seth is intense and loves what he does. A true independent spirit. Love everything he is doing to push Oregon Chardonnay forward. Also Seth gets back to you immediately. I respect that and even will make comments about your reviews on Cellar Tracker thanking you for the support.

Seth saved wines for my visit for 3 days and then went further and saved some wine for seven days. A true amazing person!!!

All The Morgen Long Chardonnay’s I have sampled this year.

  • 2023 Morgen Long Chardonnay Black Label – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (12/20/2025)
3 Day Improvements Over a Month; 11/27/2025-12/25/2025: Day 1: cw3 closure. Cloudy wine similar to a Wild Bee from Big Table. What a great value for $30 with shipping. Seth does it again. A lighter style for the Morgen wines but balanced. Lemon, spices, matchstick, dust and white flowers. A great introduction to what Willamette chardonnay can be. 90 points
Day 2: Solid and showing a little more intensity. Matchstick, lemon, spices, white flowers, dust, orange peel and wood. Medium finish. Very nice. 91 points
Day 3: Why color means nothing as mentioned on day 1 a bit cloudy. Who cares as long as the wine is good. Picked up some weight on day 3. Carmel, wood, spices, matchstick, dust, white flowers, lemon and orange peel. Longer finish and more enjoyable. Wow value alert. 92 points
Recommendation: Again why I do day 3 review. Young wine that improved every day. Cheers to Seth. (92 points)
  • 2023 Morgen Long Chardonnay Willamette Valley – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (10/14/2025)
Day 1: While not the single vineyard offerings one of the better Willamette Valley designations out there. Wood, spice, lemon, white flowers, dust, orange peel and golden delicious apples. Nice acidity and medium plus finish. 92 points
Day 2: These are good on day 1 but better over time. No exception. Wood, flint, orange peel, white flowers, lemon, spice and sour apple. Nice acidity and medium plus finish. 93 points
Day 3: Holding form and these could go a few more days. Matchstick, flint, wood, orange peel, white flowers, spice, sour apple and lemon. Very complex offering and Seth just makes great wines! 93.5 points
Recommendation: Seth Morgan Long at another level in the domestic Chardonnay department. (93 points)
  • 2023 Morgen Long Chardonnay Koosah Vineyard – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola – Amity Hills (9/20/2025)
$75 Plus Cabernet Event (Scott and Amy’s House Twin Cities): Day 2: This is for sure not a pop and pour wine and when sampled at the winery gave it 94 on day 3. On day 1 tight and not very much heppeneing where as day 2 opening up for business. Shells, minerals, sour apple, wood, white flowers, pear and tropical fruit. Medium plus finish and nice concentration and acidity. Drink these for another 10 plus years. (93 points)
  • 2020 Morgen Long Chardonnay Seven Springs Vineyard – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola – Amity Hills (8/20/2025)
Tom turns 70; 8/20/2025-8/21/2025 (Edina, MN): Day 1: My friend Tom is turning 70 tomorrow and thought what starter wine should I do that will be better tomorrow! Well this one! Served at 65 degrees which is perfect for world class Chardonnay. Yes the normal rules are far outdated. Liquid gold with a touch of honey, wood, lemon, orange peel, minerals, stone, shells and white flowers. Not many wines in the world that capture my attention like Morgen Long! Outstanding. 95+ (95 points)
