$20 Bottle Wins the Blind Tasting

Well always throw in a ringer in the blind tasting and Gravel Bar Alluvial is my top wine in Washington at the moment. Think Result of a Crush Syrah level quality for the money.

CellarTracker! $50 Plus Blind Tasting with the under $20.00 ringer winning

Well my wife hates hosting wine events so when she is out of town I am hosting a wine event. A fun time with wines $50 and above on price point.
1. Gravel BarAlluvial
2. Rockpile Zinfandel
3. Montes Purple Angel

  • 2019 Lucas Winery Zinfandel ZinStar Vineyard – USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi
Glasvin Kane. Almost dead last with everyone. This is not changing my mind on Lodi wines. Thin and lacks concentration. Spices, dirt and dried flowers. Pass. (79 pts.)
  • 2006 Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards Éloge – USA, California, Napa Valley
Glasvin Kane. Really liked this at this stage. Everyone liked the nose but the crowd normally likes bigger and bold wines. Elegant at this stage for sure. featuring dust, cherry, earth, funk, minerals and floral notes. Aged well. (93 pts.)
  • 2021 Gravel Bar Winery Alluvial Columbia Valley – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Kane. So this just won a blind event with wines $50 and above. Clear cut winner tonight and my top wine along with 3 others out of seven. Cherry, plum, spice, floral, minerals and earth. Very solid wine and for the price none better in Washington. (94 pts.)
  • 2020 Montes Purple Angel – Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley
Glasvin Kane. Powerful wine with spices, eucalyptus, minerals, boysenberries, black currants and floral notes. Could use some time in the cellar but promising. (92 pts.)
  • 2021 DaVero Primitivo Treborce Vineyard – USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley
Glasvin Universal. Group hated this wine but I found it ok. Earth, minerals, floral, dust and spices. Short to medium finish. (90 pts.)
  • 2023 Solar Fortun Baya Baya – Mexico, Baja California, Valle de Guadalupe
Glasvin Kane. My friend Inti opened this the day before and should have put this in the blind tasting. My third favorite wine. Nice fruit on this one featuring cherry, plum and raspberries. Earth, spices and minerals. Love trying these blind and a well made wine from Mexico. Highly recommended. 90+ (90 pts.)
  • 2014 Château Coutet Barsac – France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
Glasvin Universal. Very good showing with dried apricots, honey, sour apple, orange marmalade and white flowers. Nice balance of sweetness and acidity. Recommended. (93 pts.)

  1. Max thanks and this is the best wine for under $20 (few places in the country) I have tasted in years.
