I normally don’t get shivers but the minute we got to the 3 Chardonnay’s today I got shivers. As a good golfer it would be like going eagle, birdie and eagle to close a round. Seth Morgen Long who makes amazing wines recommended Abbott Claim and recommended no one else. That is a statement. As an independent wine critic I owe nothing to anyone as I am not on the payroll and we ended up buying a case of wines as they waved the tasting fee. Well best money I have spend on wine in my life. Here are the notes of this off the charts experience.
2018 Abbott Claim Pinot Noir Abbott Claim Vineyard – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
Love them as they held these for 3 days for me! First wine tasted today at Abbott Claim winery. Very nice showing with strawberries, minerals, cranberries, earth, mild oak and bright red currants. Medium plus finish. Showing really well but plenty of time left on this. (93 pts.)
2021 Abbott Claim Pinot Noir Abbott Claim Vineyard – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
Day 3 review. Love when winery does this for me! Spice, raspberries, cranberries, oak, earth, dust and floral notes. Medium plus finish and nice acidity. Very impressive now but will improve. (93 pts.)
2019 Abbott Claim Pinot Noir Abbott Claim Vineyard – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
Held for 3 days at the winery for me and features soy, strawberries, minerals, spice, dust, mushrooms, earth and rose petals. My favorite of the 3 Pinots but not by much. 20 years of life left (94 pts.)
2021 Abbott Claim Pinot Noir Orientate – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
Small production wine and awesome with raspberries, solid. violets, volcanic ash, cranberry, oak, rose petals and dried flowers. Super complexity and medium to long finish. Impressive. 94+ (94 pts.)
2022 Abbott Claim Chardonnay – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola – Amity Hills
Let me talk to you! This is one of those once or twice a year wines that get your attention. This is top five wines of the year for sure and maybe one! Bought 4 bottles at the winery.
Electric wine! 1,100 to 1,200 elevation with lemon, Carmel, spice, oak, stone, sour apple and minerals. Hard to describe the level on this but might be the best nose on a wine in 15 years for me. An absolute bargain at $100 a bottle. New French oak for 12 months and about 6 after that in stainless.
For sure a top 10 wine maybe of all time!!! 97.9 but not quite 98. (97 pts.)
2021 Abbott Claim Chardonnay Temperance Hill Vineyard – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola – Amity Hills
Well half a point lower than the 2022 eola amity. Let me tell the 3 best wines I have ever tasted in a row. Who pours their Chardonnay’s second? Abbott Claim. Carmel, oak, stone, apricots, dust, apple and exotic spices. LONG finish and super complex. Wow, wow and wow!!! (97 pts.)
2022 Abbott Claim Chardonnay X Omni Vineyard – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola – Amity Hills
Ok look at who makes wines from this vineyard. The best. Another stunner. Lemon, floral, spice, baked apples, mild oak, lime and tropical fruits. Super concentrated wine and this will improve over time. Again thank you Abbott Claim for serving this on day 3. (96 pts.)
