$25 White Rhone Blend vs. $70 White Rhone Blend

Washington State is pretty diverse in the grapes that thrive there. I rate wines simply based on the quality of the wine and no politics like all the other wine reviewers who clearly are getting free samples left and right. My brother was in town last weekend and brought a new wine I have never heard of called Kobayashi Winery and they have by far the worst website I have ever seen in my life. As I commented to someone on Cellar Tracker this is a hipster wine operation (Think IPA’s 15 years ago). So Result of a Crush, which by the way has never provided a free sample to me even though I am their biggest customer and I am cool with that just absolutely destroyed this effort from Kobayashi. Here are the notes:

  • 2023 Result of a Crush White Blend – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (3/18/2025)
Day 1: Another outstanding value from Result of a Crush. This wine features minerals, orange peel, floral, spice, lemon, dust and rocks. Very complex wine for the money and nice acidity. Back up the truck. 92 points
Day 2: Beautiful wine and under $30. Shells, lemon, spice, orange peel, white flowers, rocks, dust and a nice mineral streak on this medium finish. Nice acidity as well. Excellent Rhone style wine. 92 points
Day 3: Well day 3 does it again. This is even better. Orange peel, white flowers, honeysuckles, spices, lemon, dust, stone, minerals, chalk and dried apricots. Nice acidity. What a beautiful wine for the money. 93 points
Recommendation: This is off the charts great. Just had a Rhone White Blend 2021 Kobayashi that is like $70 and this one blows that out of the water for $25 a bottle. (93 points) $24.19 with shipping as part of the wine club.
  • 2021 Kobayashi Winery Marsanne-Roussanne Boushey Vineyard – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Rattlesnake Hills (3/14/2025)
Day 1: Burnt rubber, exotic flowers, earth, potpourri, orange peel and spice. Unique would be an understatement. 89 points
Day 2: Hoping for an improvement but no. While interesting wine the burnt rubber and lack of fruit is a turnoff. Potpourri, spice and some lemon. Just not for me. 88 points
Day 3: Nothing is improving here. This reminds me of some hipsters IPA discovery. 88 points
Recommendation: Get the 2023 Result of a Crush White Blend which is much cheaper and better quality. Dlark how did you get 96 points out of this wine? (89 points) $65 Cellar Tracker Average.
